Local Search Enhanced-Improvements to Local Search


One of the improvements to the tool is that you can now pinpoint with city names where you would like to analyze traffic from. This gives local businesses information that was never available to them with the old keyword tool. It also makes it possible to discover places where there might be higher volumes of search traffic for a specific term, or where the cost for the search traffic might be cheaper.


This works by clicking on the pencil next to the country of choice, in this example it is the field that has United States in it. Then begin to fill in the city you would like to target. A menu pops up that you can choose from as shown below.

The Adwords Keyword Planner has hidden the controls for changing search types. The Keyword Tool could report on three types of searches, broad, phrase, and exact, but defaulted to broad. Meaning that the Keyword Tool counted all of the keyword phrases and the synonyms and the different word variations of everything it could lump together and possibly call a search for something related to the entered keyword phrase.


The other two types of searches that could be performed were phrase, and exact. Phrase search is that you would count anytime all of the specified words were used anywhere in a search sentence or phrase. Exact search is only counted when exactly the specific words were entered in the exact order that was specified in the search field.
